SHAWL COLLAR VEST/ GODEYS VEST

This pattern is for a fitted women’s vest that can be made in either a pointed style or a straight cut style. The vest is meant to be made with a shawl collar, but the collar can be omitted if desired This illustration from Godey’s lady’s Book, was part of the inspiration for this vest, hence the name “Godey’s Vest”.
A solid color vest makes a great
wardrobe extender. . A wool vest is great for those cooler days, when an extra
layer is a must. Satins, silks or velvets make great eve
ning
or fancy attire. Worn with a skirt of the same fabric and a complimentary body,
a vest makes a wonderful outfit. . A plain skirt and a white body (blouse) was
considered “undressed”, but with the addition of a vest a lady became “dressed”
The vest or waist gave the ladies opportunity to show off their stitching
skills. They were trimmed with embroidery, braid and other fancy hand work.
This vest is a wonderful way to show off your own skills and talents/ Patterns
