Button
Bonnet
TSA-550
The button bonnet is not your usual cloth bonnet. It uses buttons and buttonholes for its shape. When unbuttoned it lies completely flat, which makes washing and ironing much easier. This bonnet comes out of storage neat and crisp and ready to wear, unlike some of the other shaped bonnets. The button bonnets were used mainly as work bonnets; they were seldom worn “for good”. If you are looking for a “good” cloth bonnet try Timeless Stitches patterns TSA-551 Poke Bonnet or TSA-553 Shaped Cloth Bonnets.
This pattern is for a button bonnet with a brim that nicely covers the face, but does not have the pronounced blinder effect that the slat bonnets do. Ties at the back are used to shape this bonnet to the head. When the ties are undone this bonnet lays completely flat for ironing and storage. A moderate curtain covers the neck. Instructions include ideas for fabric.
